Well the temperatures here today went down from 105 yesterday to just 92. That was nice, because I had to go out in the heat of the day and cut up some steel with the demolition saw. Unfortunately it’s because of all the smoke blowing down from the Dixie fire and turning the sky brown and overcast. Not so nice. :irked:

My wife has been coughing a lot from the smoke when she goes outside, But because the county lifted restrictions on dining she has gone out with her friends twice in two days when the air was very unhealthy.

Since she is vaccinated (twice and signing up for a third) she feels it is OK to go socialize, whenever she decides to.

I have a problem with how the stimulus payments were handled. . . . doled out to inmates who were in no wise financially impacted by the pandemic.

I find this inconvenient to mention because I am white and in California 3/4 of felons are disadvantaged minority types. Hopefully some of them have families who needed/got the money.

I do have a big problem with all the pandering. Pretty soon it’ll be like the Oprah Winfrey show: “You get a car and you get a car and you get a car!!”

At least those felons are mostly locked up and they’re not running around spreading viruses in the general public. I didn’t understand the part where they started transferring state inmates back to County facilities To reduce Covid, because all of transferring around should be nothing but bad for transmission rates..Unfortunately we also have thousands of undocumented people coming in every week with the virus now.

Fresno county is one of the places that they come because it’s easy to find housing and farm work and welfare here, often with generations of relatives already in the area.

Everybody knows this, and because of it I think that either people have been publishing artificially low rates of infection, or all these cases are simply not being reported. (they did report the increase in population.)

In any event, the Covid infection rate of people intercepted and tested was reported as 40%.

As of 2 days ago, we have 3 more deaths here in the province. There are currently 176 people in hospital due to COVID-19. Of the 132 non-ICU, 77.3% are unvaccinated & 8.4% partially vaccinated. Of the 44 in ICU, 88.6% are unvaccinated & 4.5% partially vaccinated.

I read that article last week, looks promising, but again, the data has yet to be published or peer reviewed. Here's to hoping ....

Only 19 COVID-19 patients in our hospital now. In the last 14 days 456 new cases with 351 active cases now. Five deaths in the last 6 days. 6/29 8 total deaths; 8/2 9 total deaths; 8/3 10 deaths; 8/13 still 10 total deaths; no weekend reports; Monday 8/16 13 deaths; 8/17 14 deaths; 8/18 15 total deaths. So far in the month of August alone we have nearly doubled our total death count in our small community.

There will be no mask mandates here. They just hired a part time Public Health Officer. They did put out a letter on 8/16 urging people to get vaccinated and signed by 111 doctors most of whom are not in our town (meaningless). My doctor, the doctor who stepped down from being the public health officer last month, the surgeon my husband saw earlier this year are not on the list. The oncologist who has been named deputy public health officer is also not on the list. I think they borrowed the letter from a neighboring county and just put their logo on it. So much for our public health department :( :( :(

Yesterday the LA Times reported that the Delta surge in California is slowing.

However, our county hospitals here in central Cal are asking Covid infected people not to go to emergency rooms, because they are jammed and can’t receive people with heart attacks, gunshots, broken arms and skull fractures.

I’m pretty sure that they haven’t caught on to the next surge yet, which will be by the recent refugee situations from around the world.

Anyhow we are not tracking all of them, and we never have been. Hang on to your hat, because the Greek alphabet is about to become way more familiar.

Hello; Interesting that in some countries one new case results in a lockdown. In my country hundreds to thousands know to be infected have sneaked across the border and have been bussed or flown into the interior. At least a few busloads delivered to a city not far from me. Now there are plane loads going somewhere, possibly near any of us.

The irony is in some places in my country you cannot eat inside or go inside without a shot and/or a mask, but non-citizens with neither do not seem to be held to the same rules as I and other citizens must follow.

I am afraid you are correct. Lambda from Peru and Gamma from Brazil have already been identified in the US. Eta, Iota, and Kappa are other variants of concern with WHO.
