I'd registered to receive an alert when I could book my vaccination, but nothing yet. Thought I'd check the website, and it says I can now.

But first try it would only find a single appointment on October 25th, none earlier or later. I think it's broken. Guess I'll try again during the day.

My 17 year old son has just received his first notification that he can get his first jab.....17 years old!!

We must have this vaccination process nailed in the UK, it doesn't seem two minutes ago that the first batch of OAP's were receiving theres.

However, how many of the population have actually had both of their jabs I don't know. I suspect there'll be a % who've declined.

........ and all that proves exactly what was stated from the get go, vaccines keep people from becoming seriously ill, or 6ft under. No one in their right mind ever said that these vaccines were going to prevent 100% of the world's vaccinated population from catching the virus.

It's absolutely insane to me how common sense solutions (masks, vaccines) are being fought so vigorously by a certain subset of our population.

Defeating this virus requires everyone to work together, and unfortunately a big chunk of the population in NA is dragging everyone else down with them.....

Hello; Was away from the site for a while. Some interesting comments. Interesting that there seems to be mounting evidence that the vaccine I took is less of a protection against becoming infected and is perhaps working more to reduce the seriousness of an infection. As the article mentioned for various reasons the data is not to be had so it is hard to know the extent of any particular aspect. What does seem clear enough is being vaccinated does not mean I will not get a dose of the virus. I may be better off with that dose of virus in terms of the intensity of the illness for having had the shots. So still some level of positive outcome from the shots is a way to look at it. If I do not wind up with additional side effects from the shots other than what already happened to me, then I may be better off from having the shots. I was 73 when I took the shots. At that age the gamble seemed worth it and may pay off. At my age the virus was a bigger known risk and the shots had not yet begun to show the side effects now known.
Here is where some will start to comment as to how the shots are safe and all. I was down bad sick for a day and did not feel up to much for a second day. I and a few people I know have had some odd problems after the shots but it is hard to say they were due to the shots. Not proof, I get it. Then there is the heart issues among some which did not happen to me as far as I know Again it is not clear anyone is keeping good track so the data may be laying about somewhere.

Perhaps the strangest thing, to me, is how it has morphed into anyone who decides to not take a shot is some sort of lowlife and/or enemy. I took the shots and it seems because I raise questions about the injections, that is enough. Somehow we are not to question at all seems to be the case. That I do figure there is a possibility for side effects to show up from the shots is not to be tolerated. I do not want for side effects to happen, but with any new medicine we get such things after a time. Maybe we will be lucky with these shots, but I do not see how anyone can know yet.

Here is a way I imagine it might play out based on the language which followed after learning of real or potential issues with the shots. Some fine day it will be announced that one or more of the shots has caused such and such effect. Then the language will perhaps be something like this. It is not unknown for a medicine to have side effects. No one said the shots are 100% safe. It is only a very small percentage who have that effect. You all have seen this sort of language so far about the "holes" in the way it is working.

Well I've had both shots, i didn't even pause and question for one second whether, further down the line, I might grow tits or drop dead. I just put my life in the hands of people who know what they're doing, even though, because how rushed it's all been, they may not know 100% themselves!

Just out of curiousity, what exactly is it that is in these shots. Is the main carrier just plain old water with the "main" ingredient too, or are these things typically made up of many many complex chemicals?

I think its important to distinguish between healthy scientific skepticism, and what is happening with vaccine information:

The debate around vaccines has become political and not scientific. Yes the scientific method revolves around always questioning research and conclusions, generally to help better fine tune results and find complete answers to pivotal questions around the study being questioned. Also, these papers are being reviewed by other scientists (hence "peer reviewed") and not random citizens who probably don't know what they are looking at.

However, the vaccine debate has devolved into political discourse similar to climate change in the 00's: 99% of papers and scientists support the vaccine, but the 1% of scientist who do not are getting way over amplified by a certain political party and certain news outlets to the point where the debate seems equal, even when it is not. On top of this, signifcant amount of literal misinformation and lies are being put out by either nefarious actors or clueless people who think they know better than experts (I like to call this "hero of your own story syndrome").

The combination of amplifying 1% of opinions and pushing misinformation is pushing people away from accepting the method of combating this pandemic that is continuing to be proven by the 99% of research as the best method. Its destructive and is actively leading to more people dying and suffering from long COVID than necessary.

This is why its so important to stomp out misinformation. Its nothing like a peer review of scientific research.
