I would have loved to have had it powder coated but I couldn't afford it.
Once all the welds were sanded smooth, I scrubbed every surface with 0000 steel wool. Make sure you go in straight lines as you don't want swirl marks. Then I wiped it all down with acetone. Keep wiping until the rag comes away clean. You can be liberal with the acetone since it evaporates quickly. Krylon makes paint for aluminum. I did two coats of gray primer and 2 coats of semi-gloss black. I waited about 30 minutes between coats. I didn't do it but I wish I'd have used a clear coat. I banged the stand in one spot I've got to touch up now.
Yeah sand blast plus powder coat was an additional $800...
I didn't realize that I never posted these photos. The sides of the stand are doors as well so I can get in from all angles.
