Has anyone kept these? If so ,how big do they get? and are these pure fenestratus or is it some sort of hybrid?
Also how aggressive are they?
Also how aggressive are they?
Thanks for reply. I'll be getting a small group of 2" juveniles to grow out,at what size do they begin to pair out? and would a 6' x 18" x 18" (100g) suffice for a pair? They are a natural color variant found in Lake Catemaco, Mex.
10" is average size, and they are quite aggressive, especially in smallish tanks.
I have found they are fine with non-cichlid dithers, but kept with other cichlids can become problematic at maturity, even in 6 ft tanks.
The breeder calls them the 'marble strain' and they looked like this :catemaco strain or the marble strain? they are prob not the same fish i’ve heard that they are a mix of synspilum and fenestratus…
That size aquarium is not large enough for a pair. Minimum would be 180G with larger aquaria much preferred. Veija are large, aggressive, bulky and high bioload fish. Thanks for reply. The pink strain comes from Catemaco. The marbled is a man made straincatemaco strain or the marble strain? they are prob not the same fish i’ve heard that they are a mix of synspilum and fenestratus…
I cannot comment on the origins of the marbled variant, other than it was developed in Australia.that’s the marbled fenestratus who origin is questioned, i had many conversations regarding this fish with seasoned hobbyists and people who collected the catemaco..look at the pics of both you will see the difference
