No way I'd get on a plane right now.

Ditto

At work we are tested when there is any suspicion that we may have been in an area (a rather large area) where someone has tested positive - even if that person is a staff member that hasn't been to work for a few days. We are then tested again 5 days later, just to ensure that we didn't get sick shortly after the first swab results came back. The way things currently are we will most likely be getting swabbed every week from now until the New Year.

In our buildings we can doff our masks during breaks, but breaks are taken in isolated areas, by single individuals. In the maintenance area I take my breaks with one co-worker, in a very large very well ventilated space, who sits approx. 12-15 ft away from me at all times.

So every one has to wear a mask on a plane except when they are eating. Does the act of eating prevent aerosolized viruses from spewing out mouths and noses

I have always found this to be ridiculous, same with restaurants and school lunch rooms right? Like the virus will avoid people that are eating but comes after them as soon as they stand up, silly and definitely not scientific .

I'm scheduled for my next Covid test tomorrow, to be immediately followed by a bus ride from the hotel test site directly to the chartered plane for the flight back to camp. Rules have been tightened again; there is no admittance to the jobsite or camp for anyone who is not fully vaccinated, whether they fly or drive in. I expect to see a large number of empty seats; I have communicated with at least 3 co-workers who are scheduled to go with me but are still unvaccinated and who have no intention of getting the shots.

No meal is served on the flight...it's only a couple of hours...but I know that virtually everyone will accept the proffered bottle of water and that many will drink only as an excuse to de-mask themselves. "Would you please put on your mask, sir?" will be a common refrain during the flight...as usual.

Not sure yet what the procedure will be on arrival to keep us isolated from the general population until the rest results come in. I expect it will be as disorganized and ineffective as almost everything else up there. Rules, policies and procedures are typically enacted with an eye towards optics..."see the lengths we go to...because we care!"...with little or no thought given to practical considerations or actual effectiveness.

I caught the virus back in may and to me it was nothing. Like the cold except more coughing and less congestion. I would say the cold is worse and the flu is way worse. This is the same experience of everyone i know who had the disease. Probably a dozen people. Only 1 person i know had a hard time with it and he had a poor immune system and was missing a kidney. He didn’t need outside treatment though.

If you watch the interview Joe Rogan did with Bret Weinstein, you can see him describe how these particular vaccines are leading to variants like delta.

So the reality is that this will only end when enough people have natural immunity and all of this nonsense was for nothing. As many people were saying way back in the beginning.

But i believe now that there are a lot of people who don’t actually want it to end, because it benefits them or their political priorities or they might just find it “fun” in a twisted way to be constantly under some kind of existential crisis.

. . . No way I'd get on a plane right now . . .

I have been on many different aircraft. One of the last commercial flights I went on was very crowded, and I had to sit in the first seat, right up front, where I could hear the pilot talking to the mechanic. It went something like this:

Mechanic . . . “Well I don’t like the look of that fuel line but I’m going to sign you off for this flight.”

Pilot . . . “OK thanks.”…

A few years later I was in a private aircraft when a fuel injection line broke over Lake Perris & we had to make a Mayday landing.

I don’t think I have enough karma points left to risk more air miles. Covid or not.

There is a famous science fiction story about a guy that invented the machine that allows you to see into the past. The outcome was that everybody figured out they could adjust it to “two minutes ago” and see what was going on in their neighbors house.

With the fact that every kid in the world is now eligible to have an instant TV production device in his hand, the way things look become the way things are to the masses, regardless of the truth.

One of my co-workers wife is a respiratory therapist at the local hospital, I have lost count how many times he has come to work reporting that another person in their 30's-40's, with zero comorbidities , and with apparently the same attitude as you, that has contracted the Delta variant, and is now laying on their stomach with a tube jammed down their throat. Those that survive the ordeal, are typically singing a different tune when they leave the hospital, from when they first arrived.

I watched that earlier today, just an opinion. Lots of opinions out there in "expert" land, with many opinions believing that the main cause of new variants, is because of the low number of vaccinated among the masses. That creates an opportunity for the virus to mutate.

My wife and I fell somewhere in the middle, we were definitely sick, exhaustion and loss of smell. but did not ever get to the point of being concerned about surviving it. Very strange bug indeed

Many people get COVID-19 and are totally asymptomatic. At a nearby state prison, all the staff were tested. Over 30 people including 27 correctional officers had COVID-19 and didn't even know it. They were all sent home to quarantine for at least 10 days. On subsequent testing, more employees were found to have COVID-19, and at least two RNs got sent home. One of the correctional officers infected his wife who is an RN. She proceeded to infect a new mother, father, and infant in the OB unit of our local hospital.

While some people don't have any symptoms, others have symptoms, and some get really sick. Some of them develop cytokine storm and can go into organ failure. Some of these poor people end up needing dialysis as their kidneys fail. We have an MFK member whose wife got really sick. Her heart stopped beating. While doing CPR, he managed to get 911. She is still alive, but suffered from anoxic brain injury and requires 24/7 care. She is in a semi-conscious state and seems to respond to sound and movement. She recently came off the ventilator but still has a tracheostomy and is fed via a tube to her stomach.

If you had COVID-19 and recovered. You are fortunate. Sure, smoking and alcohol kill people. COVID-19 deaths are leaving a wake of shattered families behind. I am looking forward to the day when I don't see requests for prayers for another person going on a ventilator and Go Fund Me and Meal Train requests for families who have lost loved ones.
