I got tired seeing only hair algae and not my plants, and my readings have shown me that seachem flourish and excel are supposed to help to fight that (while also helping plants grow, which is a plus). My nitrate readings at 0 seem to indicate that my fish ain’t doing enough, and as much as I’d love to pump more fish into the tank, I know the puffers are barely putting out the waste they will when big. So hopefully come flourish provides the nutrients they won’t. And the extra co2 doesn’t hurt and seems to be what works well on algae.
Before I add it though, is there anything special I need to know about dosing? Mainly, can I run my carbon filters with it, or is it like medicine where it neutralizes it? I’d assume I can seeings it’s just biological compounds.
Anyway, thanks in advance!

I’ve used Flourish along with Chemi pure in my planted tanks for years with no negative results. Chemi pure is made up of high quality carbon.

I don’t know for sure but believe that the carbon will adsorbe the Flourish, until the carbón can’t take more. Thus, a waste of Flourish and of carbon. I don’t believe the carbon will do anything to the Excel.
Why do you need to run carbon anyway?

It’s just part of the stock filter cartridges of the aqueon HOB. I’ve always used it since I’ve started fishkeeping. Could I get away without it if I just put filter floss in there instead?

You could make a little cut in one side of the cartridge and dump out the carbon.

I do have floss for my reef. Could I just stuff that in there?
I do use the cartridges for my other tanks still, if anything this would just save me money on filter cartridges.

Great!
Thanks for the help!
Looks like next chance I get I’ll be going diy on this filter.

I use both in my planted tank and I have removed all forms of activated carbon from the canister.

Yes, of course. You can do something similar to what I do with Penguin filters, and have done for friends for their Emperor, Whisper and Aqueon. I don't use floss, but sponge (cut to size), which last forever. No carbon, never purchase cartridges again.
