All time favorite fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you make a thread about the Electric Cat and Eel?

Lol, I've been on MFK for a couple years...and those fish were both about 30 years ago...so, no...

If I had "made a thread" about them back then, it would have been an embroidered one in a frame. :)

Electric Eel

I wanted one as a kid so bad. Definitely can see where you're coming from, even though I now know that the vast majority of people should not have an electric eel as a pet.

Yeah, that species raises the bar. When I read about guys who think their dovii or managuense or piranha is the baddest kid on the block, it makes me laugh. What's that? You have a little booboo on your arm because your fish bit you? Poor baby...

I got my first jolt from that fish, when it was less than a foot long, while I was carrying it to the car from the LFS. I had just gotten my electrician's licence a few months earlier, and had never gotten a shock at work through 4 years of apprenticeship, and then got the worst jolt of my life from a wet plastic bag...

Got a few more shocks over the years, while the fish grew to over three feet, despite ridiculous over-the-top precautions. Finally gave it to a friend; the comic spectacle of me, him and two other friends gingerly moving that fish from my home to his puts anything by The Three Stooges or Abbott & Costello to shame. We were well-fortified with liquid courage, and the entire enterprise was punctuated by us poking each other by surprise and hissing "ZZZZZZZZZZT!" :)

Man that’s a bucket list fish! I’d be way to afraid to clean its tank without being insulated head to toe in rubber though lol

"Bucket list," as in something you want to keep before you die? The ironic thing about that is that this fish could very well speed up that process, lol.

Occupational hazard…maybe I’ll wait till I win the lottery and pay someone else to worry about that tank.

For me I have two all time favorites Ive owned. Sadly I lost both to old age but I liked the fish so much I replaced them with new ones.

My old pearsei named Porkchop, hit 16” and was calm, peaceful, yet very outgoing

My old hairy puffer, (Scruffy) very interactive

The new pearsei (Kirby) is still a baby at around 11” now

The new puffer Gizmo is still tiny but has a huge personality

John, I don't share photos online but I'll private message you with some video footage of an electric eel educational tank set up with probes to measure current connected to lights, voltage meter & sound. They throw in some weather loach' and the eel starts hunting and generating shocks....

Just have to find it. Remibd me if I don't message you.
