Hi everyone,

i’m trying to add my 7-8” African arowana to my 300 gallon tank. I’ve tried a few time the first a red pike started picking on it so i rehomed the pike.
Two days ago after a few weeks and few inches. I tried again knowing i’d be home almost all day. Everything went fine day one and night one. Most of the way through day two was fine until just before bed i noticed some damage to the scales. I pulled it and put it back in the grow out. I then had to move the back up afrowana to a small qt tank since the fight.

do i just need to let them sort it out?
am i being too protective of the afrowana?

tankmates are bichirs, clown knife, 3 datnoids and Flagtail. None can fit the arowana in it mouth.

thank you in advance

It would be great to know what fish did that. Also your not being too protective because I would have done the same.
I would eliminate the Bichir for doing that so it's either the Flagtail or Clown KnifeFish.

Update?
I have an African Arowana with lots of upper jaw Bichir and one lower jaw Bichir. 6 flag tails of various sized and a plexiglass. No issues at all. I would say the clown knife is the issue.

Which type of flag tail?
I am guessing you don’t mean flag tail prodicholus and if you do I would rule them out.
My guess is the knife. My large knife used to taste test others (until someone did it to him long term-quite a feat at 18”)
