PTERODORAS GRANULOSUS Growth Rate

Most sources list 28" as the terminal size.
I started off w/2 @aprox 3-4" maybe 2 months ago, 1 is closing in on 7" and is larger than all my Raphael's. the other is less round and about 5". awesome guys who come out for food and don't seem like living driftwood like my irwini.
thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter has a thread where he saw dramatically different growth rates from a group of three. there seemed to be an 8" difference after a year or two. i believe that he thinks this is due to sexual dimorphism.
I thought they would grow more slowly as well, hopefully they stall out around 12/14" and slow their growth from there.

Thanks, mine is over 8” now and it was about 3.5”-4” when I got it a month ago. I’m hoping it stalls out too lol He seems to be nocturnal, just hiding in a cave all day and becoming active when the lights go out.

I only feed this tank in the morning, i believe they have adjusted to my feeding schedule. but i'm loving them so far makes we want more doradids, Dora sp. Rhinodoras, centrodoras and others

Doradids are definitely cool, I have some other rare type that’s been hard to get an ID on. It’s a smaller type that looks like a ripsaw.

Sounds like the fast growing kind. I guess unfortunately for you as you want to keep it the longest possible time. It will not sustain this growth. It sounds like a spurt.
