Hi, I recently bought a Platinum Senegal Bichir and as I know Indonesia water are not filtered regularly. Hence, I would prefer to be carefull with it.

I have a main tank and a quarantine tank. But I am unsure how I should quarantine the Bichir, what to use to wash any invisible infection etc. and what I should use to quarantine the Bichir.

Many thanks for guiding.

It’s likely captive bred and not wild caught. So I’d suggest keep in a tank, cycled, w/o other fish for a month and no visible sign of infection or disease then introduce into your main tank. Can keep in quarantine for Longer to be sure. No medicine unless the fish shows something basically.

Getting older makes my vision suck. At a minimum, I would use prazipro to treat common external worms found on bichirs, 1 dose for 1 week. We've had members who find the worms later on after adding to the main tank (quarantine period was just 2 weeks).

ok thanks but what about not us directly during quarantine? coz i want to extract as much possibility of it being sick as possible.

ok thank you and based on SG weather whereby it rains alot year end, is a heater required? and during rainy weather does temp of water still meet the suggested temperature for bichir?

I assume it’s always warm in Singapore but I’d try to not let the temps get below 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
