Jeez…showing me that after I take down my rift lake setup - are you trying to torture me lol
This would be my go-to if I wanted Rift Lake cichlids and tankmates. No loaches would be harmed in the making of the cichlid tank that way.
I found the Africans weren’t that hard on the loaches given sufficient hiding places and that tough loaches are chosen…it was the other way around! And bigger cichlids didn’t even mind.

Either way, it's a very interesting kuhli mimic imo.

Among the larger of the seven known types of Lepisoteus. Also perhaps the slimmest. These fish are very hardy, and can adapt to a wide range of water conditions. They are also able to gulp air.
Correction: There are not seven known Lepisoteus species. There are actually four Lepisoteus and three Atractosteus.

Atlantic Tarpon
Megalops atlanticus

Size: 8’
pH: 7.0-8.0
Tank size: 10000G/Individual
Country of origin: Countries throughout North and South America
Diet: Most live, frozen and dry foods of an appropriate size
Temperament: Aggressive, may tolerate similarly-sized fish
Temperature: 70-80° F
sg: 1.000-1.025

Description

The Atlantic tarpon is an absolutely ridiculous and impractical fish to keep-- unless you are a true monster fish keeper. Some of you may think I went off the rails with this one, and to be fair, I did. However, a number of private aquarists successfully keep fish this big or bigger, and a good number of those people are on this very forum. Figured it was only fair. But moving past the size issue, these fish are rather hardy, and very versatile in terms of salinity. They are perhaps best known as game fish, and rightfully so.
