I was considering getting these for a long time.

Slender Betta
Betta belica

Size: 3.5”
pH: 4.0-7.0
Tank size: 10G/Individual

Description

A far, far rarer alternative to the common Betta splendens as well as more common “wild types.”. Slightly larger than splendens, though slightly smaller than macrostoma. Clear sexual dimorphism, as shown above. (Left: male, right: female) One of the two members of the belica complex. Serves as the belica complex type species.

Love the variety in wild fighting fish. Never really would have learned of it were it not for this thread.

pH: 6.0-7.5
Tank size: 75G/Individual
Country of origin: Countries throughout South America
Diet: Live foods, can be weaned onto frozen and even dry
Temperament: Peaceful towards similarly sized tankmates
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Potamorrhaphis guianensis is one of the relatively few freshwater needlefish in the trade. These fish are much rarer than Xenentodon cancila, which is generally considered the most common needlefish in the aquarium hobby, freshwater or marine. Marine needlefish, despite making up the majority of needlefish species in the world, are almost nonexistent in the aquarium industry.

pH: 6.0-8.0
Tank size: 5G/1 small group
Country of origin: United States, around the Gulf of Mexico
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Occasionally territorial
Temperature: 50-86° F

Description

Closing month one the same way it was opened, I present to you another pygmy sunfish from the genus Elassoma: Elassoma gilberti, the Gulf Coast Pygmy Sunfish. These fish are even smaller and rarer than the aforementioned species. As for the link, it does not take you directly to where you can order these fish. Go to their fish list for details on availability. I would also like to use this opportunity to apologize for a mistake I made in the first post: The sunfish pictured there appears to be Elassoma okefenokee, not Elassoma evergladei. I was not previously aware of this.

Ocellated Pufferfish
Leiodon cutcutia

Size: 6”
pH: 6.5-7.5
Tank size: 40G/Individual
Country of origin: Countries throughout Southern Asia
Diet: Live and frozen foods. It is imperative that you provide some sort of hard food
Temperament: Aggressive
Temperature: 75-80° F
sg: 1.000-1.005

Description

Kicking off month two is Leiodon cutcutia, formerly Tetraodon, a rarely-seen Asian pufferfish. These fish are similar in size and appearance to some Pao species, though are generally more active and outgoing than said genus. Cutcutia is the only described species of its genus, at least as for the time I wrote this profile. This is a species that is rarely talked about on this forum, that I feel deserves more attention.
