As long as you are doing "theme weeks", there are lots of seldom-seen and interesting livebearers out there.

Also plenty of lesser-known native species like Umbra mudminnows, pirate perch, etc.

An Australian week would be worthwhile.

How about Freshwater Invertebrates week? Or a week devoted to fully-aquatic herps, i.e. ones that live comfortably in a strict aquarium with no land area or basking spot?

So many critters...so little time...

Siamese Giant Carp
Catlocarpio siamensis

Size: 5’
pH: 7.0-7.5
Tank size: 10000G/1 small group
Country of origin: Countries throughout the Mekong Basin
Diet: Most dry, frozen, and live foods of an appropriate size will work
Temperament: Peaceful towards tankmates too large to be eaten
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Catlocarpio siamensis is the world’s largest carp-- a giant among giants. These colossal fish are really only suited for life in humongous tanks, or better yet, ponds, must they be removed from the wild. These fish, though incredibly endangered in the wild, are quite heavily bred in Thailand for food purposes, and occasionally make their way into the aquarium/pond business.

Malabar Leaffish
Pristolepis marginata

Size: 6”
pH: 6.0-7.5
Tank size: 40G/Individual
Country of origin: India
Diet: Most dry, frozen, and live foods of an appropriate size will work
Temperament: Shy and predatory. Peaceful with most similarly-sized tankmates
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Pristolepis marginata is a rare Nandid found in India. They are related to Nandus and Polycentropsis leaffish. These perch-like fish are cryptic ambush predators that are known to shoal alongside cichlids and large barbs in the wild. Exceptionally aggressive tankmates should be avoided with this species.

I agree! Can a theme be small oddball fish - cheap and under 55g?
