Description

For the title of first true goby to be featured on this thread, Oligolepis acutipennis is certainly deserving. These rarely-traded fish hail from a small family consisting of six relatively small gobies found in every environment from freshwater swamps to the ocean. This species in particular is found primarily in brackish swamps and estuaries, while also sometimes occurring in both marine and freshwater environments.

Description

The first knifefish to be featured on this list. These fish are not overly predatory, but still have the potential to eat smaller fish. Relatively hardy, though requires water on the softer side. Initially appears very similar to Apteronotus albifrons, the black ghost knifefish, but upon further glance, bears many notable differences.
