Pleco with Bichir question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Any other ideas besides redfins for plecos in the 12-20” range that are prolific algae eaters?
We’re you thinking of getting L137? They smash veggies, I haven’t noticed if they are eating algae off the plants or if they are actually eating the plants.
L200 are also veggie eaters and may also eat algae.

For a while I kept a large rhino pleco in with some larger upper jaw polys including a weeksii. The pleco did end up sucking on the weeksii but had left the others alone. But it wasn’t that it was doing it for the taste of the slime coat. It was a purely territorial thing. The weeksii wanted to occupy the same area the pleco had claimed. This was in a 8 foot, 300 gallon. But apparently the happy spot was coveted by multiple fish. This may be another consideration, some pleco become quite territorial.

I decided not to put them with the bichirs, I’m putting them with some large predator characins

Jaws777 has some type of fancy pleco with his bichirs but i don't remember the name I believe it was a plant eating species
edit : never mind , they're carnivores l]
