Hello everyone!
I have recently bought two new ornate Bichir as tiny little babies. Yone is doing great and has tripled in size. He was bought from a trusted store. Kassadin is doing very badly and he was bought from an aquarium store that I now know not to trust. This store had me on a notification list for Orante Bichir and once their quarantine period ended were supposed to call me. I have a feeling they did NOT quarantine this poor guy as just a few days after I received him, his fins started giving way.

No other fish in the original nursery tank is sick or shows any sign of illness. I did treat them just to be safe and I have moved Kassadin into a recovery tank all by himself while he heals. Water tested and all strips come back with everything in safe levels.

Issue:
His back tail fin is all but gone, most his top ridges are wispy or missing, and his right-side fin is half a fine.

I am treating him currently for Bacterial disease using API Fin and Body cure which covers fin and tail rot and a few other diseases. I have also added a dose of aquarium salt to the tank. Currently I am doing quarter water changes every 2 days as the instructions for the antibiotics indicate.

Any additional suggestions to make him comfortable or an alternative medicine that would help? I have read over and over the blue liquid medicine (forgot its name) will kill Bichir.

I have also had Bichir for over 6 years now but none have ever become ill so this is a first for treatment with this breed of fish.

Make sure it eats and keep the water pristine. It should recover with time.

The water is definitly pristine and I feed "fresh" canned blood worms which he seems to enjoy. He is not eating a lot, but he does eat some. I am hoping having him in his own recovery tank will encourage more eating. He did just swim a bit around the tank....probably checking it out....and is now back to resting.

Would switch to some crushed pellets than the blood worms.

He wont touch any of the high protein bichir pellets we have, but I do have a suction baster to suck up any worms he does not eat.

Keep trying to offer the pellets. Trust me the little Ornate will eventually eat them. Like kno4te kno4te stated pellet is better more nutritional than bloodworms. Also if you eat fish like Tilapia or Whiting offer small raw pieces.

Okay, I will keep putting in the pellets. I am glad I got this baster feeder I can just put them right next to him. He has not gotten any better but I finished the second round of anti biotics today and will do a 75% water change tomorrow and just encourage foods.
I really appreciate all this help

Thank you everyone for your help! Sadley, baby Kassadin did not make it. :( I will stick to my usually aquatic stores in the future.
