However, they are rather adaptable, and are not awfully hard to maintain in the aquarium. They can be kept with, and are similar in maintenance to, many other similarly-sized South American cichlids.

This species is sometimes caught, and mistakenly sold under a different name. I found this out through first-hand experience, and for years, got the chance to keep this very rare fish.
