Hi,
I have ~40 Neon Tetras, ~25 Guppies, and 6 Horsefaced Loaches in a 90g tank. I recently added a Betta. My staple food has been Spirulina flakes, and 2 cubes of Daphnia each night.

I've read that it's actually bad for Bettas to eat spirulina, is this true? If I also give him adequate carnivore suited food, will he be hurt by eating the spirulina intended for the other fish?

Thanks

Just supplement with what it needs. Even in the wild they will pick at algae. As long as it isn’t the bill of it’s diet it will be fine.

If it's a reqular part of the diet, yes. Bettas are obligate carnivores.

It's not something I would ever let my betta eat regularly. Technically it's not exactly a plant, but it's plant like and obligate carnivore means they can't digest plant matter.

Personally, no. Knowing as much about bettas as I do, mine never eat processed food. I feed frozen blood worms and brine shrimp only. The only pellet I'd ever feed a betta in a pinch would be Bug Bites, but it's not ideal.

They do sell pellets formulated for bettas, pellets formulated for guppies/most tropical fish, etc. They all won’t be picky, but as long as they get a good portion of the foods they need it will be okay. My bettas have never had problems with eating pellets - though I’m sure live/frozen is much preferred.

I feed all my bettas with live food and pellet. Daphia, mousquito larvae, bloodworm, mealworm, shrimp, granular pellet for discus fish, etc. Depending on the size of the mouth.
