Anyone from New England?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm in MA, metrowest specifically. i no longer am a member of the the New England cichlid association for a few reasons, first a former president of the group is an extremely offputting individual and secondly i have zero interest in african cichlids aside from predatory haps and tangs.

the new england scene seems to be dominated with rift lake keepers or as i call them malawi tetras.

I have a thread with two other fish keepers in MA. Both are men in their late 30's early 40's in the eastern part of the state.

i dont know of any convetions outside of the NECA ones but i'd be interested in learning of any that came around. especially for new world fish

I understand what you’re saying about everyone being into Africans up this way: I live on the north shore and I only know of one person keeping American cichlids. I’d like to start a group for anyone in the New England states. Even if it’s just a social thing with a long term goal of doing meet ups.

I keep Americans. Have 3 180’s and some small tanks too.
Keep me in mind, I’m inside the 495 belt not too far from rt 2

i keep a mixture of SA characins, cats and cichlids as well as synodontis sp and Vieja and Amphilophus sp.

I have A LOT of fish at home right now-

favorite groups are Pbass, pimelodes, doradids and heros, crenicichla, vieja and aquarium classics like JDs

Cool!
I don’t- haven’t had a pair of those in a few years. I do have a wild Rio mag umbee pair that spawns every 45 days.

I don’t breed much any more tho

That’s awesome I had an umbee female for years but never got a male. How big of a tank to you have the pair in? I currently have a male jaguar and Cuban female who are trying to spawn but I may try and get my red dovii female to spawn with the Jag not sure. I’ll have to clear out my 180 for them to be alone. What amphilophus do you have?

I raised a group of 6 in a 75 from 2-3" babies. a pair formed- 1 male out of 6. my third time growing out a group, first male. They still live in the 75, i have a 125 they will move up to in the next year or so. i think the constant breeding has slowed growth, male is maybe 8 or 9" and getting taller bodied. i've had them for about +/- a year.

I have 3 180s but i need to move on some fish.

Amphs- i have a male Gold Barred midas- 4 of his offspring and 3 female xanthic saggitae. I'd like to do lyonsi and trimac eventually.
