Are the spots you’re talking about the ones by the face?
 
Looks like a Panaqolus sp. which are wood eaters and not really plecos. Can't really tell what's going on with the face. Need a better pic.

Here is the curren list of Panaqolus species of Loricariidae from Planetcatfish. They most certainly are plecos as the term has come to mean. The Panaqolus maccus is #5 on the top 25 plecos kept according tp PC. https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/family.php?family_id=4

Yes, the term plecostomus (Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth) does describe them but plecostomus is a seperate family of fish from the Panaqolus family. Proper care of the Panaqolus sp. requires that wood be available for them to eat as it does make up the majority of their diet. I have kept L104 and L448 (LDA068). If a hobbyist purchases on of these thinking it feeds on algae like an ancistrus sp. the fish will not thrive.
I know you have significantly more experience than I do as I follow you here and on planetcatfish.
