It's been a long time since I've posted, but I've been doing Saltwater for several years now.

With all the work put into Saltwater, I have a 400g tank, and a Peacekeeper Maroon Clownfish breeding setup, along with quarantine tanks always running, I decided I wanted to take on a Freshwater Tank, since I haven't had one for several years now.

The last setup I had was a 300g tub with a huge Pleco I grew out, and 9 Different types of Blood Parrots and a hybrid Texas I bred. The Pleco is now in the Baltimore National Aquarium swimming around the Cayman exhibit. His name is stealth if anyone recognizes it.

I realized I've had hybrids, but I never have had a Flowerhorn, nor groomed one, and I'd like to give it a shot.

I talked with Chris Rounds and he sent me photos of some he has available, and I picked this one out. It should be arriving next Thursday.

From the research I've done, I'll probably not follow every footstep because I do enjoy an aesthetically pleasing tank, and I have a huge Texas Holey Rock that I'd like to use, which would help raise the pH. I'll reassess that if I need to.

I've attached some pictures of the one I picked.

Let me know what you all think.

Any tips and tricks are welcome.

Thank you!

To add, I am a competitive person. As I learn, if I'm successful, I'd like to groom a Flowerhorn for competition.

Chris had some other Flowerhorn available. I really liked this one, a Golden Base, and it was currently his most expensive.

I was debating on purchasing this one as I do like the coloration, but wondering if it has solid potential to be competiton worthy.

Thanks

I like the Take5 a lot more. I wouldn’t get that goldenbase imo. He has had much better. I also would wait a bit for him to get in a fish that really blows your socks off because I can say he does get those kind of fish often. You just have to be checking his page regularly to get them first.

Thanks for the response. I have no idea what I'm looking for. My budget isn't limited so I can afford something on the high end. Any suggestions?

Thanks

My suggestion is too watch what he gets in for while and you will eventually know what you really like. Just wait for one that really catches your eye. Lots of freedom you got to choose without a limited budget. I also would highly recommend 916aquatics.com owned by Julie Tran who is very reputable in the trade. She is friends with Chris rounds and offers some more affordable options but has expensive fish aswell.
