Hi guys! I'm new to fish keeping and I've heard that anubias and java ferns are some really easy plants to take care of, so I was planning on getting some of those for my fish tank. I was wondering what would be a good light to get for them and how long should I leave it on per day? Can I just leave it on for a few hours while I'm doing my school work or do I have to leave it on the whole day? Should I dose with any fertilizers or anything? Thank you for all of the help you guys have provided!

Welcome aboard
Anubius, Java Fern, and Java Moss wiil grow in low light conditions so no hight tech light system is required. You can add a liquid supplement if you want.

I keep lights on for about 6 hours for Anubias.

All of those plants will do fine on regular aquarium lights. I’ve even grown anubias with no extra lighting.

Ok, thank you for your guys responses! Does it matter if I keep my lights on consistently or not? Like, if I leave it on for a few hours one day and then 6 hours another day will it make a big difference?

Generally 8-12 hours a day is ideal. Some plants need more or less.
You can hook the light up to a timer to have a constant schedule.
You won’t kill Anubias and ferns and such with a more inconsistent schedule though.
