When you compare weekly growth in percent to their maximum length the most Killifish are unbeatable fast growers.
Yeah annuals grow absurdly fast.

Do mbuna grow fast? Or guppies?
Livebearers aren’t super fast.
Mbuna are easily an inch per month on a slow day - when I had them they would get some good size in weeks. Near full grown in a few months.

pH should be 7.6-8.2 or something like that.
How big is the tank?
Speaking from experience, keeping mbuna in less than 55 is asking for water quality problems and massive aggression problems once they mature. I tried them in a 36 and it all fell apart once the dominant male was killed.

Cool I will try mbuna. I am staying away from killifish because when I buy them they are already at full size which defeats the purpose of my experiment.
Annual killifish you should get as eggs. Anything sold as adults are probably not annuals, or you can breed them and raise eggs the following year.
