L96 Spinosus help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Definitely hard to believe that happened during shipping.
You should ask the seller, how did this happen during shipping if it was packaged, and shipped properly?
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I just don't see how it could be during transport but the issue is basically resolved. As I mentioned earlier I messaged the seller immediately once the Spinosus had passed. It was the middle of the night so I knew I'd have to wait for a reply but the Seller messaged me back earlier today. Their response was to offer me credit toward a future purchase which I think is very fair. So I consider the issue resolved and my first experience with this seller I consider a positive one.

Again it's such a pity a beautiful creature perished but I want to thank all of you who took the time to respond. I know I keep saying it but it's true I appreciate the support and information you all gave, Thank you.

To me this fish has been not eating for a while as you can clearly see the bone plates (I colored red in the pic attached) even if you stopped feed a pleco for a week it wouldn’t look this skinny.

the other thing I noticed in the pictures is the wound has black edging which indicates the flesh had been rotting away prior to shipping, possibly a bacterial infection from a nick or wound while residing with the seller? Heater burn even? There’s a clean hole in the centre of the wound also indicating the wound is not fresh. Any pleco I’ve had with an injury didn’t have flesh deteriorate around the wound.

sounds like you have worked it out with the seller and are satisfied with the results, which is good! I do look forward to seeing your new purchase!

sorry for your original loss.

You could be right. The stomach looks flat but from a different angle it looks sunken. Hard to tell since it’s a lighter color.

It’s easier to see when it’s darker like this one.

Thank you very much for the details you added, it's important info. that will help me in the future for sure. The pic and the arrow and circle really help me identify the area I should look at when trying to figure out how well fed and maintained future Pleco's purchases where kept in.

And thank you for pointing out the necrotic? tissue. In my haste and panic I overlooked it. Again it is sad that I couldn't do more for him/her and that it passed so quickly after I received them. It's such an unusual wound and I wonder how the Spinosus got it. Like you said maybe heater burn?

Yes, still would've preferred the Spinosus Portel but it looks like I will probably have to take a smaller L160 in it's place. Again thank you for all your help, it's much appreciated.

I agree it's hard to tell from my pics, my apologies. Plus I think the wound also makes it harder to discern.

Again thank you both so much for your help.

Just wanted to show you another thing to look out for when purchasing another pleco is to look at the eyes. They should not be depressed and sunken in.

I know this pic is post heath but the white below the eye should not be visible (I’m assuming it was visible when this pleco was alive just maybe not as obvious)

Thank you again, I really appreciate all the help and info you have been giving me. And yes the eyes where sunken while the fish was alive, it's something I noted but forgot to mention here. It's part of what made me feel it was emaciated or wasting away in some way or another.

Seriously thank you so much Niki_up Niki_up
