Spotted Raphael catfish killer?

If I had to guess, I'd propose that a disease has been killing your fish and the raph just happened to be near a dead or dying fish doing what opportunists do.

I don't think a raph could do what you describe... and the timing points to an introduction of another fish into the tank.

Just because the tetras were seemingly unaffected in the prior tank, it doesn't extrapolate to all other fish. Different fish have different immunity to different pathogens.

I find it hard to believe that size raph is killing anything. I have nearly 10 in a 140g with 5 redhead Tapajo. The largest raph is a 7in spotted.
I agree with the others that there is something else happening.PXL_20220206_012035081.jpg
This Orinocodoras Eigenmanni had a fungal infection that I had to surgically remove. Had it exploded my stock would have all been infected and needed to be destroyed.

I've been keeping and breeding this species for many years. Never had any problems although they will eat fish small enough to swallow.
How are you getting your raph's to spawn? Hormones?

I only breed for fun / when I want more stock for myself so only sporadic breeding every few years. I breed a few different raphaels but the spotted ones are super cute at 2 - 3cm when a few hundred little fatties scurry about gulping down food anxiously.

Yes, use hormones but interestingly, they have gotten used to the process over the years. I use less and less hormone over time and only need to induce one or two fish. Those fish set off all the other receptive fish (including con specific species) so large group spawns do occur. I generally handstrip and dry fertilise to get best results. I suspect I could inject plain saline to set them off now.
