A product that actually works on BBA!!!

I have been struggling with the dreaded black beard algae!! It was every where; rocks, substrate, decorations, plants, and even had a few pest snails with it on their shells. I found a product called apt fix (can be found on 2hr aquarists website). At first I bought the little bottle and it worked!! I would turn the filter off, dose about 8-9 pipette fulls on areas with bba. This stuff worked so great I bought the bigger bottle (highly suggest the bigger bottle if you have a big tank). I have been spot treating with every water change and my days off. It has completely eradicated my algae! It even seems to work on brown spot algae. I just thought I would share in case anyone else is looking for a cure to the algaes.

I am sure it is not just peroxide. I actually did soak decorations and rocks in peroxide and the bba came back. I even spot dosed with peroxide. I also soaked stuff in bleach… and it still came back. Whatever’s in it worked! I did go through many forums and a lot of research to find ways to combat algae. I did try a plethora of different suggestions and homeopathic remedies. Nothing worked, until I stumbled across this product. I am in no way endorsing this company, just finally relieved to have found something that works and had no side effects to any inhabitants. It is plant safe, snail safe, and all the fish are healthy.

Sounds good! I am glad it has worked for you and I am curious.
However, how are you sure it is not mainly peroxide (or very close)? The only information in the website is -
"APT Fix uses an active compound that biodegrades naturally within 24hours [sounds like peroxide], with no nasty residues.", then, "proprietary ingredients", then "no copper"
The website's photos of its effect on BBA through 7day treatment looks suspiciously similar to the effect of peroxide on BBA.
Again, it sounds very good as BBA is one of the most insidious types of algae in FW aquaria. I was able to combat mine with a combination of cursing it many times, peroxide, mechanical removal and lots of elbow grease. But as everybody knows, it can come back.

Seems like that website is doing everything possible to avoid admitting that their product is just peroxide. They couldn't get away with that if it were a food or medication intended for humans, but I guess with a fish medicine they aren't required to disclose the ingredients in their magical elixir?

I may be forced to gain some personal experience with the use of peroxide soon, as I have started to notice a few tiny clumps of BBA in one of my tanks. No new plants or fish recently, but I am going to place the blame squarely on the shoulders of tlindsey , as the nasty stuff started to appear the day after I first read his thread detailing his problems with BBA. It's obviously an internet-propagated variety of algae.

Fifty-plus years of aquariums without ever encountering BBA...and now this...

Thanks…I may try it because I can’t stand BBA but it sure does look and seem like H2O2.
