after some thinking of its potential size I finally re homed my venezuels sp pike even though it was sold to me in error I got quite attached to it .Now I have a red tiger mota in a 240 g tank is there a medium size pike that can go with a red tiger . I do have a 8 inch proteus pike in another tank but dont want to move that advice welcome.

If it’s a female you might have a chance with a zebrina or atabapo if it’s a male I wouldn’t even suggest trying

Your definitely taking a risk then as soon as he reaches sexual maturity he may even kill your other pike

Don’t put anything in with him the only thing you could really put with him is a female mota or other female parachromis but that’s still a risk because he may kill instead of mate

Keeping pile cichlids with any Parachromis is usually problematic (not mentioning the obvious water parameters preferences).
They almost always see each other as competitors, and its pretty obvious why....they have similar jaw/mouth types, meaning they compete for the same foods.

They also have similar body types , which exaggerates the reason they will compete, and eventually try to kill each other.
If you want to keep 2 cichlids in the same tank, it is usually best to get 2 drastically different mouth, and body types to lessen the risk of conflict.

or with Parachromis something that obviously doesn't compete

Its my belief preferred water parameters should always be taken into consideration, if you water your cichlids to color up properly , and stay healthy.
Most pike cichlids prefer low pH 7 and below even as low as pH 5), soft , mineral free water.

Whereas Parachromis of all types prefer high pH (7.8 to almost 9) hard water.

great info the mota won't be going with the pike I did try it the pike is way bigger than the mota the firts day the pike hunted the mota pike is 10 inches mota is 4.5 inches the second day the mota has damage to tail so I seperated them.

looking at the chart above would it be worts putting a wave maker in the tank where the mota is.

These Parachromis are found in various riverine water type habitats.
I wouldn't hesitate to use one pushing water along the length of my tank, but I doubt its required.
