Hi Guyz.

Can someone tell me the growth rate of Golden Dorado and Vittatus Tiger fish.

At what size do they slow down growth if they do?

Can a Dorado and Vittatus be kept together in the same tank? (given enough room is provided)

Which is easier to care for?
Which is more aggressive?
Which is more community friendly?

Please let me know.

Thank you.

Dorado are MUCH easier to care for. Unfortunately sourcing the sought after species can be very difficult. I had terrible luck mixing Frankies with stuff, lots of luck with Brassies getting along with each other and other fish.

Unaware of any long term success with this combo.

I don't feel as though many hobbyists are cut out for ATF of any kind...... Very stressful fish to try to keep. Everyone has short term success, VERY very few long term success stories.

Yeah, for the ATF, I have always seen people get the little ones and start to grow them out but to be honest I think have have yet to see any full grown ones thriving in an aquarium.

I got the pleasure of spending years growing them out (Tatf) only to watch them kill themselves. Great for years and all it takes is a split second. One spook. Years of work gone in a flash. "F" that. I think my largest was close to 2'. Very impressive site to see, very nerve racking to show anyone IF its your fish as you might just get the same scenario I did - go to show a fellow hobbyist your pride and joy and quick as lightning a thud and a belly up pride and joy.

I don't think that scenario exists when talking Dorado.

Hmmmm I had a Forskahlii Tiger fish once
Grew to about 8-9 inches from 3 inches.
Moved him to the community tank and my Endli took him down ?.

Super skittish fish. The Which is the main problem I had. From the looks of it Dorado are not skittish like ATF then I guess.

Thank you.

Dorado are very aware of their surroundings. VERY rare to ever hear them hit the side of the tank. Not sure if the constant pacing burns the tank perimeters into their little fish brains or what, but I don't ever hear them hit the sides even when feeding and chasing each other.

I'd almost call them inquisitive vs skittish. Which can be an issue for other fish.

Considering how fragile Characins can be Dorado are bulletproof. I know the teeth of other species can be a much more impressive sight, but all things considered and keeping most of the apex Characins I find myself gravitating back to Dorado time and time again. The constant pacing puts them in a league that only a Lince Cat would understand. Never a boring moment with them pacing.
