need help with stocking ideas for a 500 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Now i've decided on a 8 x 4 x 2 450 acrylic tank so a silver should work fine assuming my oscar leaves it alone. But I got a 120 for the oscar so I can always move it

Excellent size for the arowana. Better to move the Oscar as the arowana and Oscar may get territorial. So your stocking would be:

silver arowana
Clown knife
Ornate bichir

Yes and thanks I will make sure they are all similar size when all added together to make sure theres no issues. I wanna get my clown knife off live food tho :/ They are kinda picky like gar!

Okay sounds good, and do you think an arowana would work? (all fish would be similar size once I set up this tank)
The TGS will eat an ornate, but there are bichirs , like congos, that get big enough. Another large catfish that I think is safe with an ornate bichir is a giraffe nose or even a granulated or rip saw cat
I think an aro would be ok but keep in mind they’re jumpers and much more active than your other fish, so it may work but probably isn’t the best fit

Yes I have heard about how much they jump, so I will definitely keep that in mind. And yeah I will look into rip saw catfish, they seem really cool. But yeah I already have the ornate bichir so I would like to put it eventually in the 450 right now it's growing out in a 125, I will make sure to have lids and having weights so the arowana can't get out and also I won't keep driftwood so it can't hurt itself. Soft fake plants should be fine tho

The ornate is definitely the right one since they’re active eaters and should be able to eat. If you like the ripsaw check out the granulated, very similar but more interesting IMO
Weighted lids is a must with aro, I have a 19” jardini and she occasionally hits the lids very hard

you’re just repeating what someone else said or wrote

I literally can't (knowingly) be repeating what someone else said or wrote. I don't know of anyone else who has the same principle of 2.5-3x tank width, it's something I thought of myself.

MitchGlitch said it was fine, so I'll be leaving it at that.

You created that theory yourself? No wonder you think a silver arowana requires a tank size bigger than My room ???
