Cory fry inside cannister filter...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not unusual for fry to get sucked into a filter early on. Really cool find too.
No doubt, but for them to survive and grow in a cannister filter that hadnt been opened in over a month... Kinda surprised me that they survived. Also these were not small fry, they were 1.5 to 2.25 inches long. Larger then the ones sold at my LFS

This is how I found out my filamented barbs had started to breed. I found 10 little fry while cleaning my canister one time. Once they were alone in the tank I had 100s of babies. Every time I see them in a select few lfs I wonder if they are from the ones I sold to them.

Yea I've covered the cannister intake with a pre filter sponge. I've still got 6 left, but lost one of the albino a couple days after discovering them. The bronze colored ones are very dark with a deep rusty colored red along the back and dorsal fin. (I think its the dorsal) So my garbage babies are much more attractive than the parents lol
You may not want to cover the intake if you want some to survive. If they never reach maturity in your tank this may be a perfect survival of the fittest scenario.

Gotta get some of those metal pre-filter with tiny holes. The sponge ones are annoying.
Where would I order the metal ones from? I hate the sponge pre filters but I don't want anymore fry right now. I have my tanks as stocked as I want with the addition of these guys
