Hey all, curious what a good vendor for WC peacock bass would be? I'm looking for several WC pure Temensis in specific. PredatoryFins has them in stock and I asked if they were wild caught, Rod said they are and are from Brazil. Sounds good to me, but I am looking to grow world record size temensis in my tropical pond that I will be finishing here soon, so I want to know for absolute sure what I would be buying. Any thoughts?

Tangled up in cichlids gets cichla in pretty often, I know another guy who gets a larger selection of species but I'm not sure about his name.

I heard about TUIC, I looked at his website and he doesn't have temensis, but i shot him an email seeing if we will have any sometime soon. Thanks for the reply!

No problem. Aqua imports gets cichla in often as well, but not sure if you're all for the $50 minimum on top of $40-50 shipping or whatever they have. TUIC gets a pretty good variety pretty regularly though.

So interestingly enough, Kevin from TUIC got back to me this afternoon and said there’s a ban now on the collection and exportation of all wild Cichla from Brazil and Colombia, so he said tems probably won’t be around for a while :(

yep. sadly this is correct. Cichla in Peru, and Colombia are fully protected and banned from collection and exportation(legally). Brazil also has a similar ban. However we are still seeing small amounts coming out of Brazil. Nothing like the quantities we saw a up until a year or so ago. Likely until all of the already collected fish and permitted fish run out. The long term, well established exporters wont touch them. Some of the newer exporters are still risking it and other 'pop-up' exporters will continue until they are shut down and will pop up a few months later as a new company and try it again. it is like the old wild west down south lol. All of that said, to do it by the book and legally it will be a while.
As for temensis specifically, they all came out of Colombia & Brazil. The other countries they are known from (Guyana & Venezuela) have zero exporting companies in operation so we will likely never see them from those regions. Thats the official scoop on Cichla.

Yep, thanks for shedding some light on this Kevin. I hope that this ban lifts sometime in the near future, but for now we will have to just wait and see.

these tems are big fish with big energy, have two in a 625g and it’s too small - these guys dwarf other regular sized bass….

you can have these two for free …. WA State -
