I’ve never done a baseline from the tap for ammonia, till this morning….let me explain.
I’ve been monitoring my #s closely so I would know when my Nitrogen cycle is complete. Up to now I figured it wasn’t complete because my NH3s keep showing .50. Right now my N02s are 0.0 and my N03s 5.0ppm. Correct me if I’m wrong but if I’m still showing elevated NH3s, the N02s will show elevated #s as well indicating the cycle is not complete. For the last few weeks the NH3s have stayed in the .25-.50 range. I didn’t think anything of it when the N02s were up but now that everything but the NH3s are indicative of a cycled system it had me scratching my head. Thinking out loud the thought acured to me to see WTH the tap readings were right out of the faucet…….NH3: .50ppm is what It read, any thoughts?

That's fairly usual if you have chloramine in your tap water. Your biological filter will remove that level almost immediately.

If your doing 80% water changes your fish will get used to these mini spikes.
