My chocolate Bobo needs help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Brief update Bobo's wound appears to be scabbing over. No pink flesh now visible except a bit at the top. I started her on kanaplex and also added some pharmaceutical grade vitamin c which worked well for her before. Tank water refreshed again. The scabbed over area is white. She swims and seems relaxed with the lights off. Not interested in eating. No clamped fins. She rests at the bottom some. Will continue treatment, cautiously hopeful. Could be days before I hear from the vet so I'll continue my efforts here.

Pharmaceutical grade ascorbic acid absorbs directly into tissues and the body unlike regular vitamin C. Basically "super C" with all the same benefits.

Once had a fish with a nasty wound like that. Nothing worked so I tried cleaning out the infected areas, gently cleaned with povidone iodine to disinfect the area and made sure it didn’t leak into the gills, and then covered the wound with New- Skin liquid bandage.

The New Skin forms a seal so I figured it would protect the wound from reinfection. Not telling you to do it but it worked for me. I also changed massive amounts of water to get the bacterial load down, reduced feedings, and added salt

Where have you gotten the bandage? I turned off the heater this morning. Her largest patch was fungused again but chunks rolled off this morning. She knows when I come to check on her (goes into the plants and covers her head) but she's pretty good with me observing her up close. I also have a medication from Ocean Clear for fungus on tap if needed. Its marketed for flowerhorns but the ingredients aren't in english.

I hope so too, I've had a bad stretch recently. I'll keep plugging away. Just blows my mind how stuff happens so quickly and gets out of control.
I can understand that and it’s tough to want to stick it out. But you got this! Your a good care giver ?

Right now Bobo is in a bath of kanaplex, regular salt and epsom salt. Heater is off. She actually acting pretty normally all things considered. She swims at the top or sleeps there. No fuzz right now. She will greet me. Per P phreeflow I ordered some iodine swabs and new skin bandage. Should be arriving Thursday.

Came home from work today and Bobo's tank was milky white with nasty white globs at the surface. Grossest bacteria bloom I've had since high school. She was in the middle column at the time and was due for a w/c today anyway.

The fungus is frustrating. It goes and comes, sloughs off into pieces everywhere. I can't even determine if she's improving or staying the same. The iodine and skin bandage should arrive by tomorrow evening. Right now her tank has Prime, salt, vitamin C and Kanaplex. If anyone has other suggestions I'm all ears.

I may not have added enough salt last time. I've corrected that.

Tank refresh, clean water...did a partial manual drip in addition the last hour. Lowered water level and adjusted airstones for better aeration. Waterfall filter is more effective too. She seems comfortable...I noticed that despite the refresh she seemed to be gasping a bit at the surface. These adjustments did the trick.

Bobo is tough. Other than not eating she really isn't acting any differently. I'm hoping she will eat soon.

Hope Boba gets better soon. I’m no vet and the method I shared was a Hail Mary when I had no other option.

If you do decide to try it as a last resort, make sure you clean the area of dead/damaged skin and be doubly sure the area is disinfected thoroughly before applying the bandage.
