Isla Taboga Panama via Milwaukee
With the daily rains here, shrimp are breeding in the permanent pools in the forest.
So Jaime my plant guy, who lives on the edge of the forest, offered to catch some.
I gave him a bucket and a net, and less than an hour later he showed up with this.

Some, no bigger than mosquito larvae, the largest @ 5".

I like to check water parameters of the natural waters of animals I or friend collect, did a quick test strip dip in the bucket.

0 (or undetectable) nitrate and nitrite.
pH around 8 (maybe lower).
Calcium hardness negligible, but general hardness neutral.
This not surprising with the heavy rains, consistency of the surrounding rock, and heavy vegetation constantly sucking up any nutrients up to the edge and with roots reaching into the pools.

Are you going to put some in your refugium and aquarium?

Yes there are many already in the refugium/sump, and since there are no fish in the main tank at the moment, about 100 shrimp went in there this morning.
To get fish for the main tank, I'll need to go to the mainland and collect myself.
