Feedback on Convict Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the tank set up looks really good. I agree that botanicals will make things look more natural, but will also likely stain the water & possibly lower the PH.
Convicts are Central American Cichlids & although very adaptable, they thrive in hard water w/ elevated PH.

I added a bit more rocks and a spidery branch.

Thank you. I am hoping to get some river rock to fill in between the lager rocks this week, so maybe next week for the convicts.

I’ve got a 40G too with some acaras in it, Sometimes I get a bit bored with them and consider doing this type of set up.
It’s nice to see an under rated common fish get a setup custom made for them.

What kind of convicts do you think you'll be getting? I have Honduran red points for sale at the moment, if you're interested.
Here's the mother:

Unfortunately I just convinced myself to keep my pair of cholutecas, for now. I found out they have a very unique secret:

Thanks for the compliments. I plan to get a pair of pink convicts. I think the orange the females get on them for their breeding dress is very pretty.

If you like orange, might I interest you in Ken Davis' Lago Nicaragua siquia? Males are known for getting bulky and solid colored, females are known for incredible amounts of orange on the fins and body.
Pictured below is an atypical Rio cabuya female, but the Lago nicaraguas should come out looking something like this. Ken Davis can be contacted at fishfarmusa@comcast.net
