how to use activated carbon

Hi,

I am starting to replace the filter cartridges in my HOBs with custom cut pads. This will work great, but now I am wondering about carbon. The cartridges have carbon, but the pads do not. If I want to continue using carbon, can I just put some in a little bag and drop it into the back of the tank, or does it need to go in a filter? Or should I just forget about carbon altogether?

It's your preference but tbh activated carbon is not necessary. Some other members don't use it unless after medicating or absorbing tannins from the aquarium. Honestly been years since I've used activated carbon.

Yes that would be the proper place for it.
