New around here and this is my first thread!
I have kept fish since the 80's with the customary growing up break for some reason.
Fast forward and all of a sudden I have three tanks in the house! A 50G bow front community, a 60G with my oddball monsters and a 30G full of Tiger Barbs... Not too many questions please!!! LOL!

My oddballs are a 7 inch Poly, two 6 inch Golden weather loaches, an eight inch Tire Track eel and a Doctor fish sold to me as a goby and I almost forgot about my beautiful Clown Pleco!
I have wanted a buddy for my Poly for quite some time now, it's about a year old and growing nicely.

Browsing the classifieds in my area I found a guy selling 8 inch Poly's, he had 3.
I only wanted one since my tank was small and I was not ready for a monster tank just quite yet...
10 minutes later and I am the proud new owner of three 10 to 12 inch Poly's and a gorgeous African Leaf Fish!

After a week of them being in the 60G and having bad feelings the whole week about them being so cramped!
Christmas day I found a 150G tank with stand and had it at my place before lunch!
6 foot tank.jpeg

First was a thorough cleaning with hot water and a bit of vinegar for the hard water stains.
It came out really nice and clean.

I removed the wooden surround, wood filled some areas and sanded it down and painted it glossy black!
Turned the bottom left panel into an access door with magnets holding it in place for easy access.

150 Lbs of pool filter sand and two bags containing plant root fertilizer for one side of the tank, the sand bed will slope up to the right as well as towards the front of the tank. How long it actually stays that way with these fish is another story!
The rocks were placed on the aquarium floor for stability and some caves were built on the left side.
I then painted the back of the tank black. My Tiger Barb tank has a black background and it looks amazing, really makes the fish pop!

I filled the tank tonight, placed the 1000W heater in, thermometer, two surface skimmer pumps and an old, cheap Tetra Cascade filter to provide water movement to help move the heated water around. I will be adding a second heater to the tank as a precaution. Prime was added to remove unwanted chemicals.
Tomorrow morning I plan on testing the water and if it is good and up to temp, I will move the Tiger barbs in along with their two year old Eheim cannister filter as well as an AquaClear 50, both very established filters.
As I take down my other tanks I will add in their decorations, mostly wood and rocks and plants to make them feel more at home.

Water testing will continue daily but I will most likely be able to slowly add my other fish after 2 weeks.
For filtration I am planning on using all 3 of my Fluval 407 filter all together by linking them. The first will be 100% mechanical filtration media, the second will be full of biological filter media that is fully seasoned and the third will also have bio media with water polishing pads before the return to the tank. There will also be powerheads to create water movement through the tank.

I realize that this is not really a "monster" tank but for me it is a very large upgrade!
My last 6 foot tank was more than 20 years ago and was a marine fish tank! Loved those bright fish!

I will update tomorrow with progress and pictures of the tank and stand!

Another busy day with the new tank.

Filled her up last night and getting to grips with the Eheim heater... It's one of the newer ones that does not really tell you the temp, you have to find it by trial and error it seems! Tank is at 26.9C and I want to get it to 26C, so a bit of fiddling to do. Harder to do with such a large volume of water, may move it to a smaller tank to calibrate it.

This morning I moved the Aqua clear 50 over and moved a bag of media to the tetra Cascade filter for now.
Removed most of the plants from the 30G and planted in the new tank, also some rocks with great Java fern growing on them and one piece of driftwood.
Added some more Prime and floated the Tiger Barbs and the Sailfin Pleco. After acclimatizing them they were released and are doing great!
Also added a few feeder Rosy red Minnows to fatten up for the Poly's and Leaf Fish when they move in 2 weeks time.

This was first thing this morning just after I added the filters! The bags of carbon is holding in the filter rings in the Cascade filter...:grinno:

Sand,rocks, filters moved.jpg

Then the mass rip and replant was undertaken very gently! Also added the fish!
The light on the left is a Current and is set at a cloudy sky. the one on the right is a Nicrew that will be swapped out for 2 Hygger lights.
Tiger Barb Eheim also added!

plants, more rocks and fish.jpg

Neatened everything up and closed the door for today! Also bought glass covers, that is why the HOB is on the front for now.

I will update with better pics later tonight when it is darker. When it's winter, I like as much sunlight as I can get in the house so long as it is not directly on the tanks.

Merry Christmas to you!
Merry Christmas!!!

Wanted to quickly add some pictures of the fish this tank was bought for!
Since they are the stars of the tank, guess I should introduce them!

My tire Track Eel, had him since he was less than an inch long! He is now almost 8 inches and growing. Love this guy!!!

Next up is one of the Golden Weather Loaches, the smaller of the two at around 6 inches. My wife named him Daniel-Son and the big boy is Mr. Miyagi...
Photo bomber in the background!

We have all seen Poly's and I will only bore you with one picture! This guy is 10+ inches

20221228_162049.jpg

And my supposed Goby that turned out to be a Garra Rufa! He is one tough kid to still be swimming with these beasts! Very cute and very active!

I saved the best for last!! I have seen the babies numerous times but never adults and they are gorgeous!!
African Leaf Fish. About 7 inches from nose to tip of tail.
His jaw is a hinged contraption that more than doubles in size in one quick snap! Wait for the burp of scales and the hunt continues!
Absolutely love this guy!!

Beautiful

Hope those 3 big bichers don't have a negative impact on the social balance

They are pretty peaceful for the most part. They get really excited when I acclimatize some rosy red minnows and then calm down.
The Leaf Fish is discovering a larger tank means he actually has to hunt and use his muscles, the minnows are fat and healthy!
The Tiger Barbs have all grown up together and have been constant companions for over a year now, they are a healthy, fast moving group.
My smaller community fish will be donated back to my LFS.

I tried to upload a few more images last night but Edge is being stupid and not downloading my images...
And tonight I remembered I can upload direct from my PC! A lovely feature!!

I decided against daisy chaining my Fluval 407 filters and picked up a Fluval FX6! Loaded it up with all the old filter material and started her up.
It's the biggest cannister filter I have ever owned!!

The shots from last night...
Down the side shot! Still so clear!

20221228_173738.jpg

And one shot of each side, still playing with the lighting. One side has a CurrentUSA light and the other is a cheap Nicrew (not my favourite) and this was changed to a Hygger that I do quite like!

And a quick video to show where I ended off tonight!
Everyone ate except the Leaf Fish, guess he will wait till tonight to hunt.

Almost forgot... I added my CO2 system as well. Will look into direct injection.
