Hey Everyone, looking into getting sand for my 75 gallon tank. Looking for a sand that is heavy enough to not destroy my filters, but smooth enough for bottom dwelling species like cories. Im aware that pool filter sand is very popular, however im trying to aim as light in color as possible to really make the fish stand out. So if you have better suggestions Im open to it, thank you.

Sounds like ud like carib sea torpedo beach… its a heavier grain than most all sands and its white/clear colored. Only substrate id ever use for my rays. It almost resembles crushed glass.

I used Stoney River brand and the have several colors. It's heavy enough for me. There was some floating sand for the first day or so, but once that all settled i have no issues. I use the siphon vac to clean regularly and run my fingers through it every few days to keep it clean and it settles pretty quickly.

There is a pool filter sand brand call mystic white. It's super white if you're looking for the lightest color and cheap.

I like the look of garnet sand. I have used both the purplish garnet and the brown garnet. It is also heavier than silica/quartz sand, 140#/cu. ft. vs 95#/cu.ft.

Yes, I use this and love the Peace River. Some would call it a ‘small gravel’ as opposed to ‘sand’ but its is a great product that doesn’t stir up with the fish movement, might have second thoughts if I need it for a fish that buries itself in the substrate like a puffer. It is not sharp or anything like that, just might be harder for them to dig in. I have big bichirs on it and they do great on it. The Rio Grande is identical in color but it is much bigger grained and I do consider it a gravel. I have a mix of this and Peace River in my Oscar tank.

This is Peace River in my 300, side view a bit more natural toned

The large rocks are from Universal Rocks and match the Peace River beautifully

Noticed comment about having cories on it. No problem with the Peace River. I have it in my 46g bowfront and had cory cats and hoplo cats on it with no issues.

A bit dark of a pic but Peace River in the Bowfront on top of my garage rack

You can kind of see the bigger Rio Grade grains in this pic of the Oscar

The green phantom pleco in with him does fine on it but would not do cories on the Rio Grande

Hopefully enough pics to give you an idea of what it looks like.
