Canister Filter Plumbing Acrylic Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's old video at the end of a water change (we pump the water into the tank via the mechanical filtration system) You can see the extremely swift current generated with a Reeflo Hammerhead pump and a venturi return nozzle. The oscars do a little body surfing in the swift current, and the venturi nozzle keeps spitting out air after the tank is filled. Love the aeration. Good thing it's enough aeration, because my knuckleheads destroy everything put in their tank. We started off with a bubble wand across the back of the tank - it didn't last very long. Sorry Jon M for slightly derailing your thread/

So here's the plan. 95%. Gonna drill 1" in top x2. Bulhead with internal threads. Inside tank water return will be simple Y loc line. Water return simple 1" pvc with pvc screen end. Top of tank I'm just going to do a 1" elbow thread to barb. Then I can run 1" soft hose to the top of tank and attach to threads, boom. Seems pretty simple, no?

Should work. If you've never drilled bulkhead holes, don't forget the hole is bigger than the bulkhead fitting, so you will need the appropriately sized hole saw.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't before, but rest assured I'm going to extensively research it before I do. Also I can't believe I never thought of this but the tank has two holes alrdy that I can bulkhead up and use! Now I won't be using them for the canister because they're in the center area and I don't want my return or intake in that spot inside, but I was thinking I could build light holders out if pvc and have a mount spot now. Endless possibilities.
