might sound crazy. but i would look into a Giant tuna bag. take your time and get him into the bag while your both in the pool. my biggest fear moving a pima that big would be him thrashing and falling. even then youll want 2-3 people and anything can happen. the bag is dark and will make the fish a bit calmer and he will remain wet while being moved and if the unthinkable happends and he gets dropped. the bag provides quite a bit of protection. as mentioned above. its not to bad doing the actual trip once in his moving container. its the process of getting him out of his pond and into that container that is 90% of the stress.

Definitely a great idea. I have actually made a net/sock for him. Its just made from the hoop of an old net and just sewn fabric about 8 ft long. Looks like a giant pillow case attached to a hoop. Hopfully it will be durable enough for the pima, they are so dang strong.

indeed. the tuna bags have a heavy duty zipper so once hes in and secured your pretty safe.

Thanks. Well we are moving to 5 acres and building a house, so defintely something we wanted to do, but moving the fish will be stressful. The fish are getting an uprade though, so if they survive the move they will be happy.

What is the recommendation on acclimating the Pima? Do i just get him in the new pond ASAP or try to acclimate?
 
I have moved a Pima almost 5' from tank to pond and visa versa a couple times, never had to travel w it though. I used a bedsheet and 2 other guys to do it. Mine calmed down quite a bit once we got it in the sheet everytime. If I had to drive w it, I think I would use my 300gal Rubbermaid stock pond personally. Easy to secure a lid to. I haven’t moved anything that big but I bought a 20” jardini and used a large cooler, maybe you can find a XL tote and run a battery powered pump

That’s not a bad idea, I was looking at those insulated fish cooler bags, they make some huge ones and they can hold several hundred lbs.
