The goldfish that I loved like a son died of shock because he got stuck in a decoration, and his little carp brain couldn't comprehend the idea of swimming backwards. (Probably other issues like his egg shaped body, lack of dorsal fin, possible bouyancy issues?)
The tank was empty so I bought a jack dempsey with round, yellow eyes and fat round cheeks (3 inches, feisty male) He had a reddish head too but unfortunately he changed colors.

What's are some other cool bad ass fish that can fill the gaping hole in my heart?

[75 gallons
80% water changes once a week
fx6 filter
lots of leftover goldfish pellets
No plants
sand
Single plastic blue house where Daisy got stuck in]

I'm now thinking of getting a mokelembembe bichir, which apparently isn't as long as the senegal. Is there any reason why it's not as popular as the senegal when it's such a small species?

I'm now thinking of getting a mokelembembe bichir,
Don't see them for sale like the regular Senegal. There is also a Senegal bichir that grows 1ft from Lake Turkana Africa. Most Senegal sold in stores like Petsmart are captive bred . Yes a Moke will be fine.

A couple senegals will be fine in a 75 for life. I seldom see the captive bred ones getting particularly large. I would also consider the ropefish which you could have a group of in a tank that size if you desired, I find them more endearing than the bichir.
