Jack Dempsey Breeding or Fighting??? pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 2 male jack demseys look like fighting over female? Is that what this is.
Welcome to the forum!
They are definitely fighting, but I’d be more inclined to say it’s over dominance than specifically over a female (though the dominant fish would likely wind up pairing with a female).

Welcome aboard
Once the male and female JD pair you'll need to remove the other male JD. Once the eggs are laid the other male may be harassed or killed by the pair.

Close. I'm confident that female JD's have color on the opercula in lines and patches. Also, they are blacker in the body. Males have spots (especially in a ring around the eye).
.
If you're able to provide sight barriers, maybe the females will establish homes at each end of the aquarium, and maybe the male will go along with their plan, and maybe they will all be happy...
But, that's a lot of maybes. It is more likely to work in a very large space.
.
Good luck,
If you breed them, their babies will be really cute.
