Hey everyone! I recently bought Ery wolves for my 125 "community" it's basically been plecos and molly that won't stop reproducing lol. Right now they're about 3" ish

I was wondering if anyone has ever kept these as adults/raised them? How fast do they grow on average? Any tips/things to watch out for?

Thanks!

My experience with these is limited to one fish, which I sadly lost to the sort of jumping described by tlindsey tlindsey above. Very interesting fish, very moody and unpredictable much of the time, quite attractive...and completely different in appearance to the ones you have. How reliable is the source where you obtained these? They don't look like any Erythrinus I've seen pictured. Mine was smaller than yours and grew to just under 9 inches in a bit over one year, so neither extremely slow nor fast.

Even at a very small size, mine displayed the extended dorsal fin which became much more pronounced later in life. No red colour when small, but it became more and more evident as the fish grew. Mine did not have the dark spot near the caudal that yours show either. Honestly, I'd walk right past a tank of fish like the one you show and never think "Erythrinus" at all.

The wolf I have is the common red wolf - erythrinus erythrinus. To my knowledge there shouldn’t be any major differences beyond color.
The only real pattern change mine had was getting darker by 4-5 inches, so that’s definitely a nice pattern and I’d be love to see how they grow up.
I’ve got a tight fitting acrylic lid to keep mine from jumping, but he gets frequent marks on his head from bashing into the roof. They heal up pretty fast. He even managed to damage his dorsal fin from a jump (weird fish).
Careful with a group - even in a 125 I’d be wary of them fighting.
Mine went really fast to 5-6 inches, about an inch per month but slowed down drastically since. I got him in July 2022 at 2-3 inches and as of today he’s about 7-8 inches.
Definitely one of the best, most interactive fish I’ve kept and even a solo one has a great presence.
Watch your fingers during cleaning/feeding.

The seller is pretty legit. He works with Below Water here in Canada and sells quite the variety of fish. These wolves def look different from the usual Ery I'll agree, tbh I got a little too excited when they arrived because I thought he shipped me Snakeheads by accident lol

So I have a lid, but there's like a 2" gap in the back that leaves room for wires and the filter. Is it risky?

I found sp. "Peru" to be a bit more sedentary, though that might've been because the fish was rather large and old. They're also slightly less violent to conspecifics and tankmates, if given ample space IME, but again, that could've been due to my fish being an older LTC adult.
I personally like them more than erythrinus; they just feel slightly different in personality and demeanor.
Good luck with yours!
