I intend to pick up a large canister filter during the Black Friday sales and had it down to Fluval Fx6 vs Eheim 2262. I know it’s somewhat cliche but my simple question for those that have the Eheim 2262 is can you run the pump on the side? I’m limited in height with the stand but if I could run the pump on the side it’s possible I could make the Eheim 2262 work. The Fx6 is much shorter but it sounds like the older 2262 might be more reliable. Thanks

The Eheim pump can be rotated so the output fitting faces to the right or left of the canister body rather than vertically.

Check out Plans for weekend and my posts #142 and and 143 for how to rotate the pump and pics.

Do you know the total height of the Eheim 2262 from the base to the top of the pump? I have 25.5” of clearance from stand base to the glass panel above.

Ive been watching for eheim 2262/1500xl to go on sale for black friday several years now....have yet to see them ever even drop a penny anywhere. Now the fx6 on the other hand ive seen as low as $200 when big sales are on.

S snake_charmer ,

It's 21 5/8" from floor of stand to top of pump. I do have to tilt the filter to get it out of the stand for cleaning. The door opening on my Perfecto stand is 20 1/2" tall.

Yea, this is a dilemma and realistic scenario. Tough when the 2262 will be everyday price of $475 compared to the Fx6 Black Friday sale price I’d say $250 (approx). However, I keep fish products for decades and the 2262 seems to use top of the line quality components. At that price though people could buy 2 Fx6 units at the sale price for one of the 2262’s. 😵‍💫

I would still want the eheim lol. I didnt care for the unnecessary complexity of the design/media racks of the fx6 and the eheim has always looked so simple and effective.

Nice resurrection of an old thread.
I still have that 2262. Still runs! No complaints. Quality indeed.
Hey Harley,

I went through your 15 page thread on the 2262, excellent read. Would it be fine if I just stuffed the 2262 entirely with pot scrubbers if I’m running mechanical on my AC110? Or would it be advisable to run a more complete setup within the 2262? Yours was pretty extensive but I enjoy being able to see when the mechanical needs to get cleaned with the AC110.
