I've been thinking about this idea for a while and wondered if I should follow through. I want to write a book on freshwater aquarium fish breeds, precisely, a book with fish many authors don't include: rarer oddballs such as bichirs, puffers, bass, ropefish, leaf fish, gar, etc.

I would also include tank mates for each fish in the book and maybe even some back pages with tank setup ideas.

Do it!
books don’t die and ya don’t have to feed them!

Lol true. I think I will follow through with it...maybe start it during Christmas break which is coming in a couple of weeks for me. Maybe I'll make my New Year's resolution to make a book on fish breeds.

Do it if you have the vibe, treat it as a hobby as it is not something that will make a lot of money.
It would be a great achievement to write a book and get it published

Don't do it. Yet.
Wait until you have experience at least 5+ years experience with what your promoting.
And you wouldn't be able to write it over a Christmas break. The research you need to do is immense, citations, speaking with experienced keepers constantly, reading scientific papers etc.
If you want to do it right, don't do it.
I'm just saying this as I'm fairly certain you're not qualified to write such a book as of yet.
This is coming from a guy who writes articles for fish magazines, newsletters and papers etc, I will not write on how to care for a fish I haven't kept the fish for at least 5 years.
I'm not trying to squash you mate, if its your dream to write a fish book, set yourself up to write one down the track.
Keeping a catfish for a year and bushfish for a couple months isn't good enough

I wouldn't write the entire book over Christmas break lol. That would be insane. I meant I would start it on Christmas break. Also, I'm not nessacarily writing books on my own fish that I've kept, I meant like a book of fish breeds. So basically list them out with some short facts, not like a rigorous academic book or anything, more just a reliable book on info about fish breeds (but not a children's book either). But, you might be right...maybe I should wait. I could maybe get started on it, but not complete it for a couple of years, giving me time to actually do everything right, along the way, getting more and more experience.

I could write a book on rabbits, though...I've had experience with rabbits for about a decade now. I've even bred them. Plus, I've owned multiple rabbits and raised those babies that were made successfully.

I would say go for it, if you enjoy it and have the perseverance to complete it!
If I were you I would stick to a species of fish if I was to create a book, not as you mentioned random species here and there.
I agree with Friller2009 Friller2009 , you need much more knowledge about the fish you want to write about, not with what you currently know off the top of your head. You mentioned bass, gars and bichirs, none of which you have kept before. Having write about them from what you read is different from actually owning and experience keeping the individual fish yourself, which is important when writing a book.

True, and I 100% agree, but I have a way I can "sort of" get experience...I can just get info from you guys who do have the resources and do keep all of those fish that I don't keep. I'm not writing this book based on my own knowledge alone, I want the input from other people, if that makes sense.
