My rainbow cichlid is in a 40 gallon breeder with a divider, splitting up him and a Nicaraguan. The rainbow was fine this morning and when I walked by later, he looked like he was sleeping but swam when I got near the tank. I noticed what looks like a bruise. He ate no problem this morning. Any clue?

No ammonia, no nitrites, 5ppm nitratesIMG_20240210_141116053.jpg

That was great to seperate them. Sounds like the 40 is becoming to small for territory.
They were never together. They're in the same tank but with a divider. They never actually been side by side wide open in the tank. Rainbow was originally in there, once I got the Nicaraguan I put a divider in there and it's been like that for a month.
I was going to put both in the 75 gallon with my HRP'S but I saw that mark

I dose aquarium salt just in case. His fins are clamped also. Idk if it's from pain or what. He looks like he's resting until I walk by the tank and he moves.IMG_20240210_194746435.jpg

Oh ok. Is the heater on the side with the Rainbow cichlid? Possibly just a bruise. I suggest keeping water in pristine condition and hopefully it heals.
Yea he's on same side as heater. Just hope it's not an internal infection.
Tomorrow is water change day.

Still not a lot of movement this morning, even after a 80% water change. I'm not sure if he'll make it or not and I'd hate to see him suffer and idk what to do. During refill, I dosed with aquarium salt.IMG_20240211_135651956.jpg
