So a friend of mine is breaking down a 6ft tank and had this guy in it. He got it from an LFS several years ago as an unknown hitchhiker from a wholesale delivery.

Has that fleshy adipose fin of a characin and the Anostomid body shape but I cannot recognize the color pattern. It is about 8-9" long. Said it used to be really aggressive until it got big. 1000004956.jpg

I feel sure this is some sort of Anostomid. He offered it to me which I declined for lack of a sufficient tank. Maybe once I set up the 120 I'll consider it, depending on what it really is.

I agree it seems to be an Anostomidae. I believe is a Leporinus, but I don’t recognize the species. Very nice fish. Lucky you!
Well, he's not mine yet. If you saw the size of the two S. eupterus I just put in my 75 you'd think I'm nuts.

I'm setting up a 120 soon and my friend wanted me to have the catfish for it so I got them now. Maybe I'll get the Anostomid once the 120 is up and cycled.

Ok so it does indeed look like an L. Moralesi based on the pics I'm seeing from a search.

I wonder if this guy is full size. I wouldn't mind putting him in the 120 but not if he's got another 4" to grow lol.

My fasciatus seems to have capped at 9 (but I have seen them closer to 11). He lives in a 125.
I’d expect similar out of this one.
