Tinkering again! I wanted to add a small Fittonia cutting to my hex tank just to see how it fares. I needed a way to attach it so that the roots dangled below the water line and the leaves remained above.
I searched about in my shed and found some quite stiff plastic coated wire. You buy it at garden centres for tying up climbing plants to trellises and the like.
I moulded a small length into a form that would securely hold the plant in place. It turned into a nice little project as this is very easy to do and it does the job nicely.
The first pic is the plant in place in the tank. Leaves above water, roots below.

The second pic is a clearer view of the wire contraption i moulded to hold the plant. The plant sits in the small central loop, and the hooks go over the top of the tank to hold the whole thing in place. These could be "sized up" to deal with any sized plant really, even doubling up the wire and twisting it to deal with larger specimens.
