I have a pregnant golden base albino pearl and she is roughly a week out from birth, she still eats like a champ but it’s been over a week sense I’ve been able to confirm pup movement, granted she NEVER stops moving so it’s very difficult to get a good look but I’ve tried for hours over the last few days, I did add another ray to the system (separate from her but same tank) which i believe was the cause of a small spike in nitrite, I’ve sense upped water changes but nitrates are still really high, just wondering if anyone has any input on weather or not I should be worried about the pups

They usually stop eating right before birthing… might have a bit to go yet…
Its also possible for her to abort or absorb the pups IME also. Its never a sure thing 100% of the time.

That’s what is been scared of, she did eat all the way up to 3 hours before birth in her last little tho

U have her seperated this time and not before? They’ll def. hold longer when separated and theres no pestering males around to make em drop early. I had one batch at 180 day range when the female was alone. “Average” was 135-160 days.

You’ve had rays hold for 6 months?? I’ve never heard of a pregnancy that long, even the 135 days is crazy to me, my rays durations are typically 90-100 days but she was separated about 3 weeks before birth for last litter as well and gave birth at 90 days

120-130 days is average from plug to birth… every ray is different tho. Its pretty known that marbles hold forever also. 90-100 isnt all that far off. Id expect those numbers with a male present. Im just as surprised to hear 90-100 with a separated female 😂

UPDATE
She gave birth last night to a beautiful little girl! Bad news is there’s only 1 pup but she is very healthy. Today is day 88 and she has been separated from the male for a month and a half now. Just wanted to share incase someone else might go through something similar.

Good news! Crazy tho at only 88… how big is the pup? I know most of the pearls these days seem to be getting smaller.

OP posted a thread regarding the pup
