Wild caught discus after 2 months

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They look great.
Other than the aquarium being too small (it is only a 180); they have really settled in and have been very calm the past 4 weeks. Only real negative is they insist i give them worms on every feeding so i mix in some freeze dired black worm with a lot of green oriented foods. I try to keep their diet fairly lean.

8 months later look at the plant growth and the blue pops (that one little sword plant i planted in the left top corner of the picture in the first post has nearly carpet the entire aquarium.... stuff grows like a weed. Those a. cripus have gotten huge - i had to replant them in the back because food kept getting trapped in them.

That's the good news; the bad news is i went out of town for a week and 2 died :( So now i have 8 - that was in June/July. Also i think one is a bit skinny and they mostly are only willing to eat freeze dried black worms; i been trying to get them to eat either fish or more greens but they keep thumbing their nose - i did give them a few live white worms today and they snatched those down.

Small earthworm pieces (fresh cut) always did the trick for me. Beautiful fish and tank. Sorry for the loss of the two. There usually always is a pecking order and one or another fish would be lowest ranking.

Are earth worms healthier than freeze dried black worms? As for the deaths sadly i think i was under feeding them and then going out of town was too much - i significantly increased the number of cubes i feed them and started hand feeding them to ensure everyone gets a good amount. Right now i'm feeding 9 cubes a day (5 in the morning and 4 in the evening) to 8 fishes.

Several advantages to earthworm. You can have your own wormer for free, and it would be fresh. Nothing wrong with freeze dried .But variety including lots of veggies is best. Nori is very good as a veggie, similar to things they ingest in nature.

Gorgeous! Wilds are hands down the most beautiful! I’d try mixing in freeze dried bloodworms into Repashy. Since they’re used to the worms, they might be tempted to pick it out of the gel food. That might help them get more nutrition. Add some Vita Chem and if you haven’t already, always deworm wild caughts. If you can get them picking at Repashy, you can always at some NLS, blended market shrimp, etc into the mix
